Drywall Painting

Recently, drywall installation is common because it is easier to maintain, less costly, and primarily fire-resistant. The interior of your house is most likely drywall, and the painting process requires patience. And just like any other painting job, prior preparations like sanding and repairs are essential. Here is what to do to decorate your drywall with paint. 

Prior preparation 

You need to prepare your surface and working area before you begin any painting procedure. Move furniture and drape a cloth to cover the floor and anything else in the room.  

 Inspect the drywall for any types of damages like holes or cracks, then fill them using drywall mud.   

You need a smooth surface, sand the drywall using sandpaper and ensure the wall is uniform. Then clean the drywall using a vacuum cleaner since it absorbs all sorts of dust particles.   

Wash the drywall using water mixed with vinegar to remove the remaining dirt, then leave it to dry completely. 

Apply primer 

Apply a layer of the drywall primer in small strokes until you cover the entire wall. Let it dry and sand the drywall to ensure your surface is smooth before painting.  

A primer provides a good base for paint to stick easily. Drywall prime also helps to cover any imperfections which would be visible on bare paint. Priming your walls also guarantees the durability of the paint. Latex primers are a good option since they give the wall a polished look.

Paint the drywall 

It is advisable to let the primer dry off completely for about 24 hours. Mix your paint in a large bucket following the given directions. You can also use a paint extender since it hides the brush strokes on the wall.  

Paint the wall edges with a brush, and make sure that you do not use too much paint. Using a roller, apply paint on the other parts of the drywall. Also, do not saturate the roller such that there is dripping paint.  

Sand the drywall between coats to ensure the surface is even. Sanding ensures that the next coat adheres easily. A single layer of the paint may not be enough as patches may show as the paint dries, add two to three layers of paint until your drywall looks uniform. You can also create an accent wall to make a room outstanding.
