Paint A Wall

How To Paint A Wall Like A Pro

Painting a wall is not very complicated if you are a DIY enthusiast. You just have to avoid skipping steps and have the right equipment. Start by thinking about how you want the finished project to look and remember that your options aren’t limited to four walls of the same color. Consider painting a wall in a bright shade or highlighting your room in a contrasting finish. Do not forget to take into account the (usually) white color of the ceiling.

For interiors lacking a little clarity, it is advisable to keep your walls taking the most light in pastel shades.

01: Choose color

Start by determining the general characteristics of the colors. Determine if you want a warm or cool shade, neutral or saturated. Choose a tone according to the harmony it will create with your furniture, your works of art and decoration. Once you have a clear idea of what you’re looking for, pick a few shades, get samples, and try them out in different lighting conditions. Normally, before engaging in any DIY activities, you have to make sure that you have the right equipment. Indeed, this avoids interruptions for trips back and forth between the workplace and the store. In addition, a well-prepared material guarantees a more serene work for an optimal result. In general, to paint a wall, you should plan:

– A paint tray fitted with a wringing grid;

– A mixer;

– Beveled brushes;

– Sponges;

– A sanding block

– Sandpaper;

– Filler with spatula;

– A pair of latex gloves;

– A dust mask

02: The amount of paint

You will likely need additional paint to go from dark to light, such as going from blue to white. Regarding the finish, the glossier the surface, the higher the coverage rate. However, the difference is not enough to change the quantity you need to purchase. If you are painting a textured surface, you will need to add 1/10 more paint than if the surface was smooth. But in general, it takes 1 liter of paint for 10 to 12 m² of surface to be painted.

03: Arrange the space

If you don’t want to damage your furniture, the easiest way and if you have the space, empty the room, remove the curtains and the shelves. If you don’t have space, put everything in the center. Cover the furniture with a cloth or plastic sheeting and do the same with the floor. If you don’t feel comfortable with the stain remover technique (which will soon be one of our subjects) put painter’s masking tape around the edges of every corner of the room. Also put it on window frames, doors, and on the ceiling with the help of a putty knife to properly seal the tape. It is important to obtain a good seal so that the paint does not seep under the tape. Disassemble and protect the sockets and switches always with adhesive tape.

04: Preparing the wall

Generally, the wall to be painted should then be washed with a sponge and lukewarm water. In fact, leaching allows the paint to adhere better. In addition to leaching, it is also recommended to sand the wall well. If you have a wet wall, we advise you to read our article on this subject. At this level, you have to put on a dust mask to protect yourself. Then, for successful sanding, exert regular medium pressure on the sander or your sanding block.
